Arriving in Chicago, it was interesting to see glass block being used creatively in the airport, it would have been a great case study for our capstone project’s use of glass block.

Chicago elevated their downtown to allow for service tunnels underneath buildings and reducing trash on the streets.

Similar to Calgary, Chicago was built around the river, the design of the riverfront walkways offers a great case study for how our own city could be designed.

Our group toured Chicago, each of us researched buildings to present to the group. 

This building on the riverfront shows that there are many different options for how to design structural systems in buildings.

On Sunday I got the chance to visit some historic churches on Chicago’s west side. Seeing the way building’s were designed in the past offers a chance to take inspiration into our future construction.

We went to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright prairie house, offering a chance to see the first inspiration of modern open concept residential architecture

Visiting ISU helped to teach me how nature can be incorporated into architectural design

While Sears Tower is a landmark from the outside, the interior also offers tourists and the community an area to enjoy views of the  city from the ground level

On the observation level of the Sears tower, Details are used to show how the viewing platforms are constructed. By using details as a language to communicate with visitors, It showed how the visual medium of drafting can help communicate complex building strategies inside and outside of construction.
